Cyclone

Cyclone is a major installation designed, built and programmed by Electroland as the entrance for DirecTV’s Los Angeles headquaters. Cyclone was designed around a parametric dataset, from which we derived everything dynamically, from the aluminum rib structure to the placement of each LED. My role included writing custom software and workflows, overseeing the development and installation of thousands of LEDs and nearly five miles of cables, generating hundreds of pages of schematics and instructions, generating CAD/CAM files for fabrication, technical direction of 3rd party animation vendors, integration and installation of obscure broadcast and industrial automation systems, and developing the immersive interactive experience, Aurora.

UPDATE: Electroland has released a video of the fabrication and installation process, and it’s beautiful!
